Welcome to the online home of the Simon Fletcher Charitable Trust

In the period of time since Simon died, his family and friends have considered how best to perpetuate his memory. We knew it would have to be through music, particularly opera, the all-consuming love of his life. Now we have the answer.

A trust has been set up for the promotion of music in the UK and Australia – the two countries Simon called home. The intention is:

  • To make an annual award to a deserving musician, particularly a singer, at the beginning of his or her career
  • To bring the gift of music to a greater number of young people worldwide, perhaps by helping to provide tuition, instruments, reeds or strings
  • To facilitate music-making in other ways, for example, by providing masterclasses and encouraging artistic exchange.

The Simon Fletcher Charitable Trust has been registered with the Charity Commission (UK), no. 1094808. The trustees include his three closest friends in the UK, Chris Loake who is vocal faculty and opera co-ordinator at the Royal Academy of Music and Deborah Jones and Alex Rumsey, former colleagues at the English National Opera.

During its first year the Trust made its first award. In subsequent years, as funds grow, the Trust hopes to make increasingly substantial awards.
